Introduction

This artwork is a square decorative art porcelain plaque with a neat flat surface and straight clean edges, crafted with uniform thickness. It is a mainstream flat decorative carrier for contemporary ceramic wall hanging and exhibition display. A shallow embossed hidden swimming fish outline is carved as the base layer, overlaid with three-dimensional underglaze blue intertwined floral vines to form double-layer stereoscopic visual depth. Suitable for framed wall mounting or independent cabinet display, its regular square composition fits wall decoration layouts of modern, neo-Chinese and minimalist interior styles.
The whole composition takes the swimming fish as the outer silhouette framework, filled with intertwined vine leaves inside, adopting an integrated creative layout of patterns hidden within the shape. The fish body outline is naturally filled with dense and sparse intertwined blue vines, forming a seamless harmony of virtual and real layers. The fish symbolizes surplus and wealth year after year, while endless intertwined vines stand for perpetual vitality and long fortune, combining two classic Chinese auspicious motifs to carry traditional blessing connotations. Breaking the limits of traditional flat porcelain plaque painting, the work combines shallow embossed base shaping and three-dimensional piled blue pigment painting to realize cross-media expression integrating sculpture and painting: the base sculpts the fish form while the surface is decorated with floral patterns. Twisting curving vine lines are layered with graded blue shades, balanced by ample blank white porcelain background to embody oriental blank-space aesthetics. The clean contrast of blue and white delivers soft flowing ink-wash charm alongside the solid tactile quality of three-dimensional sculpture.

Rooted in Jingdezhen’s thousand-year heritage of underglaze blue painting and porcelain plaque sculpture, this work innovatively integrates two core crafts: shallow emboss shaping and three-dimensional piled blue pigment painting, breaking the traditional two-dimensional flat creative formula of ordinary blue and white plaques. The integrated design of fish silhouette and intertwined vines reinterprets the classic auspicious theme of “abundance every year”, transforming classical patterns into contemporary artistic language via modern abstract freehand lines. The double-layer three-dimensional texture craft features high firing barriers, as piled blue pigment easily flows and collapses under high temperature, leading to scarce unique finished pieces with irreproducible blue shade textures on every single plaque. The regular square shape matches modern wall furnishing demands, and the restrained blue-and-white palette complements all interior styles. It holds dual value for wall display and handmade ceramic art collection as well as sculptural craft research, representing a premium contemporary comprehensive art porcelain plaque integrating sculptural quality, painting quality, craftsmanship and decorative appeal.
