Because copper red is highly sensitive to kiln temperature, oxygen levels, and flame conditions, the final appearance of each Ceramic Vase cannot be exactly duplicated. Every finished piece therefore possesses its own distinctive color transitions and surface character.​

Successfully combining underglaze blue and copper red on one Ceramic Vase requires precise control of pigment preparation, application thickness, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. The additional relief structure further complicates production because raised areas heat, shrink, and receive glaze differently from flat surfaces. Excessive pigment may run or blur, while insufficient pigment may appear weak after firing. Deformation, glaze movement, uneven coloration, and firing cracks can all reduce the number of acceptable finished pieces.​
