Design Concept of Awakening of Insects Series – Bas-Relief Porcelain, Touch Mountain and Nature Within Reach
We aim to create warm, human-centered ceramic works. Following the ancient aesthetic philosophy of embedding mountains and rivers into porcelain and framing natural scenery indoors, we intentionally break the sense of distance brought by passive viewing, allowing users to immerse themselves in nature. For this reason, bas-relief craft is chosen as the core decorative technique for the entire Awakening of Insects series.
To extract the most touching natural elements, we extensively studied decorative patterns on ancient wares dating back to the Neolithic Age. These vivid ancient motifs faithfully record how humans interacted with nature across eras, offering profound aesthetic inspiration for the relief composition of this collection.
We launched an innovative design trial by combining 3D sculpting with linear dense arrangement. This abstract visual language echoes the minimalist rhythm of modern life. Our persistent core design concept is to let people touch natural textures with fingertips rather than merely view landscapes visually, and we will keep refining this creative idea in future creations.
White serves as the base tone for the whole collection. Our white glaze formula is optimized from traditional sweet white glaze. While retaining soft translucency, we reduce milky opacity to avoid overly mild flatness. Light penetrates the cup wall to reveal clear subtle shadows, delivering layered and refined elegance.
In contrast, the black, silver and gold variants feature distinct glaze textures. The exterior is coated with ultra-fine matte glaze that delivers a delicate velvety touch without roughness, while the smooth inner wall maintains easy-to-clean practicality for daily use. These colored glazes demand extremely strict control over glazing thickness, kiln temperature and firing atmosphere. After more than ten rounds of formula and firing trials, we finally achieved the ideal finished texture.
