Discovering Jingdezhen with Jackie Chan
In this video, Jackie Chan holds a piece of blue-and-white porcelain and introduces Jingdezhen to the world in a warm and engaging way. Instead of presenting porcelain as something distant or confined to museums, he begins with the clay, the fire, and the hands of the craftspeople, revealing the long journey behind every finished piece.
A piece of Jingdezhen porcelain must pass through many stages, including clay preparation, shaping, trimming, painting, glazing, and firing. As the video explains, it can take 72 different steps to complete a single piece. Even a seemingly simple bowl or vase requires years of practice before an artisan can master the right pressure, timing, and rhythm.
The porcelain is then fired at temperatures of around 1,300°C. Inside the kiln, ordinary clay is transformed by intense heat. As Jackie Chan shows in the video, Jingdezhen preserves more than traditional porcelain objects—it preserves a culture shaped by earth, fire, skill, and time.
The video also reveals a younger and more energetic side of Jingdezhen. Old factories, brick chimneys, and historic kiln sites have been transformed into art districts, studios, and creative spaces. Artists from around the world come here to work with clay and create artistic porcelain and ceramic installations. Traditional craftsmanship is no longer something that can only be observed behind glass; it continues to grow through new ideas and modern creativity.

Porcelain has also become part of the city itself. Ceramic street decorations, blue-and-white porcelain lamps, art districts, workshops, and creative markets bring Jingdezhen’s heritage into everyday life. The city feels both ancient and new—a place where centuries-old techniques meet the imagination of a new generation.
At the end of the video, Jackie Chan invites viewers to “come to China.” For anyone who wants to truly understand Chinese porcelain, Jingdezhen is certainly worth visiting. Here, a handful of clay can become ceramic tableware, artistic porcelain, or a large ceramic installation that connects people from different cultures.
As a ceramic manufacturer based in Jingdezhen, Magic Cube also hopes to share the craftsmanship, warmth, and creative possibilities of Jingdezhen porcelain with more people around the world.
