Introduction

This artwork is a square decorative art porcelain plaque with a flat, balanced symmetrical surface and dense uniform-thickness clay, a flat artistic ceramic carrier suitable for framed wall hanging and display on tea room or exhibition cabinet surfaces. The piece adopts a three-layer three-dimensional embossed structure: the base layer features encircling shallow embossed intertwined peony vines with pale celadon washes on leaves and petals; the middle layer is shallow carved with two overlapping fish silhouettes of different sizes to create front-back spatial layers; the top layer is hand-piled three-dimensional underglaze blue intertwined vines filling both fish bodies, with pale celadon embossed lotus flowers decorated at each fish head. The staggered height of three layers delivers rich spatial depth. Its balanced square composition fits neo-Chinese, zen, modern light luxury and minimalist oriental interior styles. It can be hung as a single wall painting or matched with single-fish plaques from the same series to form a complete wall installation set.
The painting adopts a primary-secondary layered auspicious composition of “background patterns setting off double fish, virtual and real layers interweaving front and back”. Encircling shallow embossed peony vines form the base layer, while two fish of different sizes overlap front and back on the upper layer. The fish bodies are composed of endless intertwined vine vines, with lotus flowers decorated at each fish head, forming echoing layers inside and outside the motif. Double fish symbolize double surplus wealth year after year, peonies stand for blooming prosperity and good fortune, lotuses represent purity and harmony, and intertwined vines represent perpetual vitality and long life blessings. The integration of multiple traditional auspicious images carries Chinese blessings for abundance, completeness and elegance. Breaking the two-dimensional limits of traditional flat porcelain painting, the work integrates two artistic forms: ceramic embossed sculpture and underglaze blue ink wash painting. Soft pale celadon embossed peonies form the restrained background, the double three-dimensional dark blue intertwined fish form the visual core, and pale blue lotuses at fish heads serve as visual anchors. Contrasts of light & dark, low & high, front & back build rhythmic picture rhythm. Twisting fluid vine lines are layered with blue gradation to restore ink diffusion texture. Ample blank white porcelain background embodies oriental blank-space aesthetics, with restrained elegant tones of blue, celadon and white, balancing the freehand elegance of Chinese ink painting and the tactile solid texture of three-dimensional ceramic sculpture.

Rooted in Jingdezhen’s thousand-year heritage of underglaze blue painting and porcelain plaque embossing craft, this work innovatively applies three-layer three-dimensional composite decoration techniques, breaking the two-dimensional flat creative limits of traditional blue and white porcelain plaques. It reconstructs and integrates three classic traditional auspicious symbols: wealth peonies, double surplus fish and pure lotus, reinterpreting classical patterns with modern abstract freehand lines to realize life-oriented contemporary artistic transformation of traditional auspicious themes. The combination of multi-layer embossed base and three-dimensional piled blue pigment features extremely low firing tolerance. Multi-layer raised vines are prone to deformation and glaze flow under high temperature, making the blue shade and embossed texture of every single plaque unique and irreproducible. The balanced square silhouette fits mainstream aesthetics of modern wall furnishing and tea room display, and its restrained three-tone palette matches all interior styles. It holds integrated value for wall decoration display, handmade ceramic art collection and ceramic sculpture craft research, standing as a high-end contemporary comprehensive art porcelain plaque unifying sculptural quality, painting quality, craftsmanship and decorative appeal.
